It was so great to be able to join Moretown Elementary School for our final practice today. They are a big group and they welcomed us with open arms. We also were able to present the money raised at our Bake Sale to Erika from the Central Vermont Humane Society.
Our lesson was about how we can bring Joy to others and how they bring Joy to us. We played a round of Meatball. This is where you sit in a circle and one girl will sit in the center. You then ask that girls different questions and try to get her to laugh. She can only respond by saying "Meatball". Everyone was able to have a turn at this game.
While we ran our laps we took time to think about What brings us Joy. You can see some of our responses in the photo below. REMINDER: Next week we will be having practice at Moretown Elementary please be sure to let me know if your daughter can attend and please send back the permission slips. Our lesson today was about Support. What does it mean to be supportive and support one and other. We did an activity where we needed to use one and others support in order for our bodies not to fall to the floor. We also thought about how others support us and how we support others during our run and at the end we took time to write down these ways.
We also discussed next week and how we will be having practice on Wednesday instead of Thursday. Wednesday will be our last practice before the 5K and we will be having our practice at Moretown Elementary with the Moretown GOTR team. We are all looking forward to this. Be sure to wear your shirt. CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!!!! You raised $235.00 for the Central Vermont Humane Society. Thank you to all the parents for their support and for all your hard work girls nice selling.
We played a fun activity working on how to compromise with one and other. Each girl was given a partner and then they were split into partner A and partner B. The girls then listened to several scenarios that they would have to try and come up with a compromise for. One was partner A wants pizza for dinner but partner B wants burgers. How do you compromise? Several girls said why not make a burger pizza. Very Cute!
We took our team photo Thank you JoAnn Billings for coming in and taking that for us we will now be in this years year book how exciting. Bridge Street Art Fair posters were made and I laminated them in case of rain. Nice work girls. See you all tomorrow 10:30 - 3:00 YOU DID IT!
Our practice today was all about running and you all ROCKED IT! Way to go! The girls should all be proud that they completed the practice 5K and with the race only weeks away you should be feeling ready. Thursday we will try to take our team photo with ALL of our shirts on and also we will be working on posters for Saturday's Bake Sale. I am aware some of you can not make it please be sure to still sign up to bake something. We can always use baked goodies. Our lesson today discussed standing up for others and how standing up for others can be both easy and difficult to do. We discussed a time when the girls might have stuck up for someone in their life be it family or friends. Many shared how standing up for a friend can sometimes be difficult especially when it has to do with other friends. We read off some scenario's and the girls had to decide if it would be easy to stand up for the person in the scenario or if it would be difficult. One scenario was a classmate acting up in class when there is a substitute teacher. Another scenario was a new girl who dresses differently.
We then took a good amount of time to practice for our practice 5K. Monday will be our practice 5K hopefully everyone gets plenty of rest and lots of water. Today's lesson was about how BrThRR to resolve conflict especially when it comes to a conflict you might have with a friend. We went over these steps:
STOP Breathe Think Respond Review
We created a scenario where two students were sitting in class. These students are very good friends and one of them was bored after the teacher gave directions so she started kicking her friends chair and touching her hair. The girl who was having these things done to her stopped working took 5 deep breaths and then responded to her friend. The girls enjoyed seeing this process play out. I think our actresses had a good time too. Thank you Ada and Lindsay for acting. We also played a modified version of leap frog so that we could remember the steps for resolving conflict. First I want to Thank Mrs Boyden & Mae for running GOTR for me in my absence. I really appreciate the fact that I was able to take care of a personal matter and did not need to cancel GOTR for the day.
In this lesson the girls went over what qualities you look for in a friend. Also if there has ever been a time when they had to choose not to be friends with someone. They talked about HEART: H - helps you E - Encourages you A - Accepts you R - Really listens to you T - Treats you with kindness The girls were asked if they have a friend/friends who has heart? During warm up the girls did a Heart relay this was a great way for them to remember what the Heart acronyms are. 2 teams were formed and the girls created 5 different exercises to do during the relay. The girls had to run to a cone and back and when returning to her team recite the first acronym and do her exercise then go to the back of the group. During the workout portion of practice the girls thought about words and actions that fall into each of the letters of Heart. As the girls ran their laps they would return to the poster that was hanging. The girls were also in teams of 2 and so they shared laps with a partner while 1 was running the other would wait then the partner would take their fast lap and write a word or action next to the letter they felt it worked with. |
