Strength this was today's theme. The girls went around and shared what they felt was their greatest strengths. We then went through the worksheet that they used during their run. On the sheet we're different things that could be a strength and as the girls ran laps they needed to think if any of these were strengths that they posses if they were then they would put a mark next to that strength. A lot of the girls felt they possessed many of the strengths from the work sheet. We spoke also about that we are getting to the end of the season and that we only have 2. more practices.

Todays theme was Compromise. The girls practiced this by teaming up in groups of 5 and playing a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Everyone seemed to enjoy the game and got along great some team leaders certainly shined through but all the girls have their opinions. Your daughters definitely find their voices during such activities. We then went outside and played another fun game of tag having everyone be it. The girls have fallen in love with this game and have a ton of fun playing. Lots of laughs for sure. Was thinking this could be something to try at our celebration with all of you.
WOOT WOOT!!!!!! The girls had their practice 5K on Thursday and everyone ROCKED it!! They all pushed themselves and pushed each other it was great to see them all coming together as a team to make sure that everyone grossed the finish line. With only 4 more practices before the BIG race I think the girls are feeling much more confident. Thank you for all your support for this amazing program. I hope you can join us at the race JUNE 3rd at the Essex Fairgrounds starting at 10am.
We chose 2 representatives from our team and Moretown will be choosing 2 as well to present the check of $400 to the Community Fund. The girls that were chosen are Olivia Veves and Amelia Henry. We hope to do this in the next week or so. Again thank you for your help with raising these funds. Bake Sale update the girls and Moretown Elementary GOTR were able to raise $400 for the Community Fund. Way to go ladies.
Lesson 14's theme is Helping others. Their first activity was to break up into groups of 4 and solve a tangram puzzle. Some girls took them home so please feel free to try them with the girls. Some groups were able to work pretty well together however others did not find it all that easy. After this we went outside and played what everyone said was a really fun tag game. The best part was everyone was it. The best part is the game never seems to end so I did have to call it after a little while. We then ran laps and the girls did push however Thursday we will be doing a a PRACTICE 5K. I will try telling the girls to please hydrate during the day but if you could give a reminder when sending them to school that would be great. Thank you all for all of our support. Lesson 13 was all about Cooperation. When asked the girls were able to tell what they feel cooperation is and how they cooperate with classmates during the day. The girls were given a task of stand in a circle on a piece of paper. They all then had to find a way to walk around the circle with out touching the ground. They had to cooperate with one and other in order to achieve this task and they were able to accomplish this.
For our warm up the girls had to run in a single file line and the person at the back of the line would then sprint to the front when there they would say "Go" this would then let the girl at the back of the line know she then had to run to the front. We did have some trouble having girls pace themselves and this is something we covered during the rest of practice. The girls finished their posters for the Bake Sale/Art Fair. Our theme today was Communication. The girls had to sit back to back in pairs and try to draw a picture. Partner A would explain the picture that Partner B then had to explain. The girls did a great job with this activity and were able to truly capture what their partner was explaining to them. We then went over some communication dialogue and how when we say something and truly are able to communicate our feelings clearly we might be better heard. We looked at the poster board that said I feel_____when you______ because___. I would like for you to______. When using I feel before speaking it lets the other person truly know our feeling. We tried to play a modified leap frog but this was a challenge that took us a long time to understand. We may try it again during another lesson. At the end of practice the girls started their posters for the Art Fair/Bake Sale. Choosing our friends was the theme of this practice. We started with an activity where the girls had to stand face-to-face and stiff as a board. They then had to take 1 step backwards away from their partner. Then they had to take 3 steps backwards they were to keep taking steps until they lost their balance. The first round the coaches matched the girls with people who were similar heights. Then the girls could choose their own partner and see which worked better. Many said when paired up they talked more about how to help each other stay on their feet. When paired with someone they chose (a friend) the girls said friends just wanted to be silly and they ended up not even completing the task or they were out early. They felt being paired up was much better. We also did a friendship warm up where the girls had to decide if the descriptor they were given was a BOOSTER, TESTER or a BREAKER for their friendship. Some descriptors were Loyal, solves problems, bullies others, honest, helps you when you need it, talks about others behind their backs. The girls made choices by running around a coach at one end of the gym and then standing by a cone with the cones with BOOSTER, TESTER or BREAKER on it. The girls did a great job. Today's theme was being friends. We talked about what the girls know about being a friend. We did a visualization where they had to picture a friend in their mind and think about how that friend talks to them. What that friend might say to bring out their Star Power. They also needed to think of some words to describe that friend. We then did an activity where the girls ran in a circle and when I said "Go" they had to stop at a cone that has a question on it, they then had to write down their answer on the sheet they had. One question was How does your friend make you feel? How does your friend help you when you need it? We then came together as a group and went over some of the answers. During our run today the girls had to do a similar activity but this time they had to answer questions about themselves. How do YOU make your friends feel? What kind things do you say to your friends? Some of the girls brought their papers home and I hope they will share with you.
We had a small birthday treat from ANYA today and we all sang Happy Birthday!! On Thursday we will talk about choosing our friends and what this might mean. |
